Ticky Tacky Town

There’s an old folk song ‘Little Boxes’, that talks about neighborhoods filled with houses made of ticky tacky, that all look just the same. This is another one of the tangle drawings I did while watching movies on New Year’s Eve and when I looked at the finished piece – ticky tacky is the name that came to mind!

Doodlewash prompt: Crayons – crayon translates to pencil in French, so I’m claiming this one fits the prompt!

Tangling from the Comfy Chair

Hubby and I spent most of New Year’s with a Boston Cream pie and a pile of old movies, so I managed to do some tangling – because isn’t that what everyone does while watching movies?

Ten New Colors – Zebra Pen Mildliner Highlighters

I mentioned last week that I had received Mildliner Double-ended and Brush Pens, as well as Sarasa Clip pens from Zebra Pens. Be sure to check out Life Imitates Doodles Weekly Wednesday Giveaway #22 because I’m giving away a set of the fluorescent mildliners!

The pens I received included the 10 new colors of double-ended mildliner, and I am in love with them. They’re bright and bold and transparent colors. Even the the Mild Dark Gray is completely see-through.

This chart shows the 25 colors of Mildliner – the new ones are the Refresh & Friendly sets. The fluorescent is the 5-pen set I’m giving away in the giveaway – it ends tomorrow!

The Mildliners also come in brush pens – instead of the chisel tip, the pens have a longer, flexible tip. Those only come in the original 15 colors, though. For now, anyway.†

You can download these color charts at the Zebra Pen site. They have both one with the colors, and a blank one that you can fill in yourself.

It’s very helpful, because the pens are not labeled with color names. Even with the chart it can be difficult to tell which is which if you have all 25 colors, but I’ve got it down pat now.

I grabbed a couple of Hahnemühle’s new Nostalgie postcards to play with the colors.

This first one, I didn’t really try to do anything other than put color down and see how they blended, switching between the bullet and chisel tips.

Mildliners are a highlighting pen and are really popular for bullet journaling. I don’t bullet journal, but I love using the pens for background color or, as you may have noticed, for doodling!

Because the pens are very wet, you do need to let your first layer of color dry before you add more color, or you can damage some papers. They work great on these Nostalgie cards.

I haven’t had time to do more than just quick doodles and I hope to spend more time with these in the near future.
