Proud Horse Against a Peacock Sky

If you are looking for the Life Imitates Doodles Weekly Wednesday Giveaway #15 , you can find it here.

The Doodlewash prompt for today is ‘Proud as a Peacock’. I was waiting at the Doctor’s office with Mom, and drew this horse. I decided he looked as proud as a peacock, and after coloring the sky in peacock colors, he seemed perfect for the prompt. Perfect peacock prompt!

I drew this for the Scribble Tree exercise in the Sketching Stuff Activity book and tied it into the ‘Green as Grass’ Doodlewash prompt.

And I remembered to scan the pen drawing that I did before coloring it in! Yay me!

Shrinking Violet

If you are looking for the Life Imitates Doodles Weekly Wednesday Giveaway #14 , you can find it here.

The Doodlewash prompt for today is ‘Shrinking Violet’. There has to be a violet somewhere in this garden. It may have shrunk so much that you can’t see it, lol!

This flower was done for the Scribble Shapes exercises in Charlie O’Shields Sketching Stuff Activity book. I had meant to scan this before I colored it so you could see the shapes better, but of course I forgot. Ah well!

Charlie talks about creating your own coloring pages, and that’s what I’m doing. My pages are pretty complex, both in the scribble shapes I create and in the coloring. I’m an experienced artist so that’s only to be expected.

You don’t need to create something complex. You just need to get your hand and brain working together, and have fun doing it. These exercises are wonderful for that, whether you are a beginner or experienced artist.

Mellow Yellow Pincushion Flower

If you are looking for the Life Imitates Doodles Weekly Wednesday Giveaway #14 , you can find it here.

The Doodlewash prompt for today is ‘Mellow Yellow’. And is there anything mellower than a yellow pincushion flower

This flower was done for the third exercise in Charlie O’Shields Sketching Stuff Activity book. Again, I think I went beyond what Charlie was aiming for, but that’s me. I gotta keep going past the road’s end, lol!

Sketchbook Revival – My Whimsical Buildings. Kind of

If you are looking for the Life Imitates Doodles Weekly Wednesday Giveaway #13 , you can find it here.

Zebra Zensations Technical Pen & Colored Pencil, with a touch of white & yellow gel pen, in a Hahnemühle Grey Book.

Tamara LaPorte shows how she creates fun and wonderful Whimsical Buildings in her session of Sketchbook Revival. I was immediately inspired – but there was this night scene of Cinque Terre, Italy from Free-Photos on Pixabay, that I’ve been wanting to do forever.

I wasn’t sure HOW to do it. Buildings and vehicles – things with fairly straight lines baffle me a bit. It isn’t the straightness, exactly.

There is an eye-hand coordination that happens when you draw or paint. What you see is NOT the same as what you draw, so your brain has to translate it into something your hand understands. Hands are quite stupid, and need a lot of translation.

My brain doesn’t speak buildings and vehicle very well, lol.

Tamara’s video gave me some new understanding, and my brain was finally able to direct my hands.

I decided colored pencil would give me the softness I wanted and the grey-tone of the paper would immediately give the night-time feel to the piece.

Sketchbook Revival is a FREE workshop running through May 5, 2019. There are two video sessions every day, designed to inspire your creativity.
AND there are free gifts along the way – exclusive lessons, videos and discounts!
