Lilac Breasted Roller #Watercolor #WatercolorBirds #ArtJournal

Mitsib was a couple of weeks late posting prompts 6 or 7 for ’52 Weeks of Watercolor Birds’. She has since posted her choices, but I didn’t want to lose my momentum, and decided to paint birds of my own choosing, meanwhile. I chose the Lilac-Breasted Roller because I love the Lilacs and Blues.   IContinue reading “Lilac Breasted Roller #Watercolor #WatercolorBirds #ArtJournal”

Eternal Night in the Forest of Flame #Gellyrolls #SakuraOfAmerica #Pentalic

With this drawing I just sort of let myself go for texture, enjoying the drama that the bright metallic and Moonlight Gellyroll pens create on black paper.  The colors seemed soooo dramatic that I had to come up with a grandiose title. Moonlight & Metallic Gellyrolls in a Pentalic Traveler Black Paper, 8 x 6

Moonlight Stallion #Gellyrolls #Pentalic #SakuraOfAmerica

I decided to try some pointilism with my Gellyroll pens.  I think they work very well for this technique. I rested often while working since the dot…dot…dot technique is a strain on the wrist.  I started around 01:00 in the afternoon and finished around 07:00.  If you took out the resting times, it wasContinue reading “Moonlight Stallion #Gellyrolls #Pentalic #SakuraOfAmerica”

Struttin’ the Blues #Gellyrolls #ArtJournal #Pentalic

I didn’t get around to drawing a Valentine’s Day picture, but it’s a day for dressing up in fine feathers, so I thought it would be a good time to share this peacock drawing. Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! Moonlight Gellyroll pens in Pentalic Traveler Black Paper, 8 x 6

Into the Abyss #GellyRoll #ArtJournal #Stillman&Birn

This is a mixed media piece done in my Stillman & Birn Delta journal.  I used Gellyroll gel ink pens over water-soluble Distress markers (the yellow and red earth tones) and Ultramarine Blue acrylic paint (a sample from Sennelier). It all came out far more dramatic than I had expected!

Magpie – 52 Weeks of Watercolor Birds #Watercolor #52WeeksOfWatercolorBirds #ArtJournal

This week’s bird for the ’52 Weeks of Watercolour Birds‘ was the magpie. Confession time.  I screwed up.  First I made the bad choice to use up paint on my palette.  It was from the Qor Landscape set – Transparent Brown Oxide, Venetian Red, Indigo, Naples Yellow, Raw Umber and Sap Green. It’s such a mutedContinue reading “Magpie – 52 Weeks of Watercolor Birds #Watercolor #52WeeksOfWatercolorBirds #ArtJournal”

Journal52 2016 Week 5-Psychedlic #Journal52, #ArtJournaling #Gellyrolls

I’ve always admired the brilliant splashes of color that you see in the oil paintings of Leonid Afremov.  And when I saw that the alternate week 5 prompt from Journal52 was Psychedelic, I thought I’d try to emulate the look using Gellyroll pens in my Pentalic Traveler Midnight Sketchbook. Not too bad.  I wasn’t sureContinue reading “Journal52 2016 Week 5-Psychedlic #Journal52, #ArtJournaling #Gellyrolls”

Long Tailed Tit – 52 Weeks of Watercolor Birds #Watercolor #52WeeksOfWatercolorBirds #ArtJournal

If you are here looking for the Rhodiarama Notebook giveaway, please go here. Busy week, last week.  I decided to keep things simple, and do more of a watercolor sketch for my ’52 Weeks of Watercolour Birds‘ entry. Colors used: Quiller Ultramarine Blue, Magenta, Permanent Green Light with a light glaze of Cadmium Yellow.  Brush: Silver Black VelvetContinue reading “Long Tailed Tit – 52 Weeks of Watercolor Birds #Watercolor #52WeeksOfWatercolorBirds #ArtJournal”

Wood Pigeon – 52 Weeks of Watercolor Birds #Watercolor #WatercolorBirds #ArtJournal

There! All caught up with ’52 Weeks of Watercolour Birds‘.  I’m not sure what Mitsib’s schedule is for posting the new birds, but I’m ready for the next one. For some reason, my scanner really picks up the Magenta color.  Far more so than it looks in the actual painting.  I’m also finding that theContinue reading “Wood Pigeon – 52 Weeks of Watercolor Birds #Watercolor #WatercolorBirds #ArtJournal”

Goldfinch – 52 Weeks of Watercolor Birds #Watercolor #WatercolorBirds #ArtJournal

I started my birds for the FREE year-long event, ’52 Weeks of Watercolour Birds‘ a bit late.  Three birds had already been done.  I’ve got the jay and now the goldfinch done, and hope to have the wood pigeon finished before the next bird is up (which will have happened by the time I have posted thisContinue reading “Goldfinch – 52 Weeks of Watercolor Birds #Watercolor #WatercolorBirds #ArtJournal”
