Happy Mother’s Day!
We had an unusual late April snowstorm this year in Oregon. One of my friends had been watching a hummingbird’s nest in her yard with two babies. Snow covered the area, and tree limbs were crashing around. Judy’s husband put up some foam board to help protect the babies, but of coursel, it was their Momma that these babies depended on. They survived and are now flying about the garden.
My own Mom passed away almost three years ago, but well I remember all the times she came to my rescue, and kept me warm and healthy when the world seemed stormy.
Did you know that female hummingbirds spend about a week building their nests, using a spider web base to attach it to a branch, insulating it with soft plants, and camouflaging it with lichens?

No better Mother’s Day gift than a hummingbird! There is truly something magical about them hovering near you ~ like a visitation! 🙂
I had the perfect photo reference for this painting!
