The Newfoundland Dog

#doodlewashMay2022: Wave. Because Newfoundland Dogs are noted swimmers, rescuing people from freshwater and ocean waves alike.

Did you know the history of the Newfoundland Dog isn’t known for sure, but there are three popular theories –

They descended from:

  • the ‘black ‘bear’ dogs brought to Newfoundland by Vikings around 1000 A.D.
  • the now-extinct American Black Wolf and/or from other native dogs.
  • the European dogs brought to Newfoundland in the 15th and 16th centuries.

I like the Viking theory. A Viking settlement discovered in Newfoundland during the 1950’s inlcuded skeletons of large dogs.

Artist Ambassador for Zebra Pens. I'm a self-taught artist who dances about with all sorts of artistic mediums. My main loves are Watercolor, Zentangle and Ballpoint pen. The subjects of my work are many and varied and change at whim. I'm a little bit crazy, but doesn't that come with being an artist? At my Life Imitates Doodles Blog, I post a list of resource links for Tangles, Tutorials and Giveaways two times a week. I also write reviews, hold giveaways and share my art work.
