Be Mine, Tiger!

#doodlewashFebruary2022: Heart. Happy Valentines Day!

Did you know that during the Victorian Era, people would send ‘vinegar valentines’, cards with caricatures and mean-spirited sayings, to suitors they wished to reject?

I have two works today. I wanted to do an ‘H is for Heart’ for my primer series, but I also wanted to do a special Valentine’s cart for Hubby. Hahnemühle now has their Cappuccino and Grey paper available in pads, so the grey was perfect for this drawing.

  • Hahnemühle Grey Pad Sketch paper
  • Zebra Technical Pen
  • Arteza White Gouache
  • Hahnemühle Nostalgie Sketchbook
  • Kuretake Real Clean Color Brush Pen
  • Kuretake Cambio Tambien Brush Pen
  • Kuretake Mangaka Flexible pen

Artist Ambassador for Zebra Pens. I'm a self-taught artist who dances about with all sorts of artistic mediums. My main loves are Watercolor, Zentangle and Ballpoint pen. The subjects of my work are many and varied and change at whim. I'm a little bit crazy, but doesn't that come with being an artist? At my Life Imitates Doodles Blog, I post a list of resource links for Tangles, Tutorials and Giveaways two times a week. I also write reviews, hold giveaways and share my art work.

  1. I have been in awe of your talent for AGES now. . . but tell me, how does one know what paper, or even color, to start with?? How did you know grey was the perfect paper?? I’m just curious 🙂 Hugs!!

    1. Thank you, Christi! Thousands of hours of practice on all sorts of different papers, using different mediums. Also, in this case, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, so I was browsing through my art supplies for inspiration. I came on the grey pad and the idea for this pretty much flashed into my head. When the tools tell you what to do, you know they’re perfect!

  2. I’ve already told you how I love your hubby’s fabulous Valentine~etched in stone, like your love for each other! The candy hearts are wonderful…I can taste their chalky sweetness from here! So many memories flood that scene!
