Did you know that it is believed that chickens were first domesticated, not for eating, but for cockfighting? That sounds sad, but unfortunately believable to me.
I’m still playing with different styles with my acrylic paintings. I have a book, ’50 Small Paintings’ by Mark Daniel Nelson and I’m using it to pick up some ideas. Great color mixing advice! Mostly, I’m following the ideas while painting something totally different, but this rooster is very similar to the one in the book. I added extra color and tried to give it more of a folk arta feel. I love the folk art style of painting.

Thank you so much, Phillis!
I love this handsome dude! And I too LOVE folk art style. I’m interested in the book you are using. I may look that up as I’m also interested in using some acrylics. Beautiful vibrant work!
The paintings in the book are very quick and very loose. It’s a little too basic for me overall, but there’s enough solid information that I can still learn a lot from it.
