#DoodlewashMarchPrompt2021: Swallows.
Did you know that swallows eat and drink while they fly? They catch insects on the go and swoop low across the water to take a drink.
This painting is a ‘save’, and I’m not happy about it, lol. It’s the last spread in the ZigZag book I’ve been working in. I managed to dump a glass of water on the page and it got wet enough to turn the gouache into mud. So, I painted over everything, letting a little color show through where it was still decent looking.
I like what I came up with, but it is totally different from the rest of the book, which doesn’t make me happy. Ah well. If that’s the worst thing to happen, I’ll have no complaints!

Beautiful swallow….I love the scrolled & etched work behind…reminding us of the elegance of this streamlined bird. I love that it has evolved to eat in a “drive-through~fly-through” manner. Their habit of nesting is another matter….LESS elegant! Ha! I remember hours cleaning my parents beach house porch lights, eaves, sills, and balconies after they left their nests.
Thank you, Judy! Probably the messy nest is why the swallows don’t want to eat at home, lol!
Love this!
Thank you!
glad you were able to save it. maybe not what you wanted going in but it’s a beautiful save
Thank you so much, Alice! It’s fun to do this kind of thing on occasion, but I do regret that it doesn’t match the rest of the book.
