Doodlewash prompt: New.
There is nothing quite like the beauty and serenity of newly fallen snow – at least for the first few months, lol.
Did you know that snow is not white? It’s actually translucent like ice. However, light bounces off the facets in such a way that we see it as white most often. This explains why sometimes it appears to be blue or pink, though. Yellow snow comes from a completely different source.

I totally get that snow is transparent. and all the sparkles when the sun hits it are beautiful.
And you would know, with all the snow you get every year! Happy New Year Alice!
This really captures the layers of snow falling in sunlight. Like one of my favorite carols…”In the Bleak Midwinter” whose chorus sings: Snow is falling, snow on snow….snow on snow on snow…” Beautiful!
Thank you, Judy! I haven’t heard that carol for a while. I need to look it up and have a listen even though Christmas is past!
Beautiful!
Many thanks!
Beautiful!!!
Many thanks, Mary!
Sandra, you’re a master at depicting white – a difficult subject but one that is so gorgeous when done well – as here.
Thank you so much, Sharon! I just keep reminding myself that white reflects all colors, so really very little of it is white. Makes it easier to deal with, lol.
