Artist Ambassador for Zebra Pens. I'm a self-taught artist who dances about with all sorts of artistic mediums. My main loves are Watercolor, Zentangle and Ballpoint pen. The subjects of my work are many and varied and change at whim. I'm a little bit crazy, but doesn't that come with being an artist? At my Life Imitates Doodles Blog, I post a list of resource links for Tangles, Tutorials and Giveaways two times a week. I also write reviews, hold giveaways and share my art work.

Awwww! I love this one. I saved it as my computer background! Thanks for posting it! 🙂
Most of the time I use line and wash, meaning I draw with pen first and then color with watercolor. I use the pen to identify the direction that the fur goes in the different parts of the body. I also draw a few areas that I’ll paint around with negative painting so the area is lighter. When I paint, I put my brush strokes in the same direction as the pen lines. I use short, dabbing type strokes rather than long strokes. And I lift color, especially along the edges of the animal to get a light, fluffy look (this only works on some papers). Have you read any of my tutorials? IF you search Pencil to Paint on this blog, you will find a breakdown of the steps I take. I also have some tutorials on Doodlewash, and those include videos. How to Draw a Hamster (https://doodlewash.com/how-to-draw-a-hamster-tutorial/) and How to Draw a Lion (https://doodlewash.com/how-to-paint-a-lion-watercolor-tutorial/). I hope that helps.
It absolutely helps, thanks so much. ‘Off to search posts, check out tutorials and practice the concepts. Then to attempt my granddaughter’s new puppy as a bit of a gift for her. Wish me luck!
Good luck!
What a charmer this panda is, as are all of them. Such an endearing species, and you caught it perfectly. I doubt hubby has any room left in his lunchbag for food – I can help with that. giggle giggle giggle.
Many thanks, Sharon! Hubby’s pretty possessive of his lunch bag and its contents so I doubt if he’d part with any of it, even if it means he has to diet for lack of food, lol.

Thank you, Melinda! I was surprised to learn that there are brown and white pandas, so of course I had to share the fact!
Quzai is so beautiful! I did not know a panda could be brown. your painting captures him perfectly!
Thank you Alice! I didn’t know about the brown coloration either, until I happened onto articles about Qizai.
Thanks for today’s nature lesson! He is beautiful! And so is yours!
Many thanks, Lori! Even though I’ve had a lot of experience with animals and read a lot about them, I’m constantly surprised by them!
Any tips for newbies for the “fur” part? Mine never look like fur at all (pens/watercolor)…and help would be appreciated!
