Artist Ambassador for Zebra Pens. I'm a self-taught artist who dances about with all sorts of artistic mediums. My main loves are Watercolor, Zentangle and Ballpoint pen. The subjects of my work are many and varied and change at whim. I'm a little bit crazy, but doesn't that come with being an artist? At my Life Imitates Doodles Blog, I post a list of resource links for Tangles, Tutorials and Giveaways two times a week. I also write reviews, hold giveaways and share my art work.

    1. Most of the time I use line and wash, meaning I draw with pen first and then color with watercolor. I use the pen to identify the direction that the fur goes in the different parts of the body. I also draw a few areas that I’ll paint around with negative painting so the area is lighter. When I paint, I put my brush strokes in the same direction as the pen lines. I use short, dabbing type strokes rather than long strokes. And I lift color, especially along the edges of the animal to get a light, fluffy look (this only works on some papers). Have you read any of my tutorials? IF you search Pencil to Paint on this blog, you will find a breakdown of the steps I take. I also have some tutorials on Doodlewash, and those include videos. How to Draw a Hamster (https://doodlewash.com/how-to-draw-a-hamster-tutorial/) and How to Draw a Lion (https://doodlewash.com/how-to-paint-a-lion-watercolor-tutorial/). I hope that helps.

      1. It absolutely helps, thanks so much. ‘Off to search posts, check out tutorials and practice the concepts. Then to attempt my granddaughter’s new puppy as a bit of a gift for her. Wish me luck!

  1. What a charmer this panda is, as are all of them. Such an endearing species, and you caught it perfectly. I doubt hubby has any room left in his lunchbag for food – I can help with that. giggle giggle giggle.
