Artwork-QoR watercolor on Hahnemühle Anniversary watercolor paper. Brushes: Princeton Elite Dagger, and Neptune Travel round size 8. Doodlewash prompt: Treats. One the great treats in my life is watching the geese and ducks coming in and taking off from the lake.
The full technique for these 10-15 minute negative paintings can be found on Shaping Studies Tutorial Day 1. I’m trying not to repeat myself too much.
I started with this set of brush studies of birds – ducks and geese, I think. Maybe a swan there, lol. These were done in QoR Manganese Blue.

I’m sorry. I forgot to scan the in-between step, where I painted the entire card with a thin wash of QoR Benzimidazolone Yellow.

Once the yellow was dry, I painted around the duck with QoR Quinacridone Gold. You may be getting a sense of the colors I like, lol.
These quick studies are tied in to my Princeton Aqua Elite Brush Review and Tutorial-How to Paint with QoR Iridescent Colors. (By the way, one of the eight ongoing Doodlewash giveaways is for the black paper and the QoR colors I used in the QoR Iridescent tutorial. You can find the giveaway here.)
One of my favorite colors and I love all your images just beautiful
Thank you, Lynne!
I see a bunny rabbit 🤗
Well, rabbits seem to thrive everywhere!
Me, too! I see a bunny. A funny bunny blocking the airways! Stop, ducks, stop! said Bunny. Stop, geese, stop, said bunny. But the geese and the ducks did not stop. They laughed. What a funny bunny, they cried with joy!
Lol! I like your version better than mine!
Excellent, Sandra. I love this one.
Thank you, Kathy!
Lovely! Thank you for sharing.
Warm, warm kisses from Italy
Thank you, Antonella!
Several bunnies trying to chase the birds away while a baby bear looks bewildered. Been enjoying your Shaping studies, they would make a lovely collection, depending on how many you’re planning on doing, framed. Perhaps we’ll all get to see them as wonderful set. Enjoy your art, starts my day off an curiosity to try out this shaping.
P.S. in case you missed the Bear,(at least thats what I think it is) very cute, bottom right side near Bunny
Thank you, Joan! I hope you do try this out. It’s lot of fun!
Nearly a three dimensional experience – love it.
