The Cookie Bookie Cat

If you are looking for the Life Imitates Doodles Weekly Wednesday Giveaway #8, you can find it here. And you can find my review of the new Hahnemühle ZigZag book here.

The Doodlewash prompt for today was ‘If Animals Could Talk’.

I’m so behind in reviews and tutorials, and have been sharing older work so I can catch up a bit. When I saw the prompt, I immediately thought of this series of cats that I did in a Cookie Bookie notebook (you can find my review here).

I had cat, Omar, in mind when I drew these. He couldn’t speak English, but Oh! Could he vocalize. If he wanted to tell you something, he’d keep at it until you understood.

He was the cleverest cat. Solid black, his mother was a purebred Siamese. Unfortunately, his father was a blackguard who seduced his mother and went on his way, so little is known about him.

Omar loved to ‘rescue’ things. He’d work a hole into bags of cat food, reach in and flip out kibble, one by one, feeding the other two cats I had. I don’t think he ever ate any himself. His reward was stealing it!

He’d also jump onto the refrigerator, open the cupboard, steal a pack of my father’s pipe cleaners, open the package and work one out. He’d spend hours knocking one under our gun cabinet (which held NO guns) and then fishing it out again. Once he couldn’t reach it anymore, he’d pull out another pipe cleaner and start over.

My parents were never able to decide whether they were mad about this or amused. Though they never did move the pipe cleaners to a more secure location.
